This weekend was a bit of a shocker for me. I received a message that a friend of mine had given birth.. Which is awesome news.. I couldn’t be happier for my dear friend.. Except for the fact that I didn't really know she was preggers!
Clearly, haven't been keeping in touch. But not for any other reason that time has just simply slipped by.. I thought back to every moment that she came to mind and I thought of giving her a call.. or even texting.. but never got around to doing it.
And it's not like I have a real excuse besides that perhaps I should have listened to my gut and called when the moments dawned on me. So lucky me, I was at least sitting down when I heard this news (through Facebook!). As much as I hate hearing news through Facebook, at least I HEARD this news!
This friend of mine that gave birth is not on Facebook, perhaps if she was it would have been easier to stay in touch.
I know... That's SAD right? But think about it. We spend a lot of our lives on the computer. A LOT.. Esp since I work a desk job. I am on the PC all day. And pre-Facebook and Twitter being blocked at work (about a month ago only), I was literally in touch with everyone everyday, except for this friend (obviously) who was not on Facebook or Twitter..
Again, my argument falls short. Had I perhaps been spending less time keeping in touch via the web and more time making calls we would still be in touch. But, trust me.. I have already made phone calls a priority! Esp for those not on social networking sites or instant messengers (kudos for being such a rarity by the way!).
[Sidenote: In my defense.. I have had issues with the telephone since my days of working in a call center. No, I was not the person bugging you trying to get you to buy into something. I worked at an IT helpdesk. It was not fun. The phone was ALWAYS ringing. And it kind of turned me off the phone forever (and I’m a girl? Gasp!). I make a couple of exceptions for a couple of close friends and the odd relative (like my momma), otherwise I steer clear. More exceptions will now be made to this rule;)]
Anyway, I realise things need to change. I have to spend less time letting work suck the life out of me (e.g. being one of the last ones in the office at 10pm – not cool!). Time to add focus to my relationships and not let work use up all the energy, Miss Buffy. And if work does still take up way too much of the brain space (as I am sure I will), suck it up! Don’t forget you are a friend, daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, niece, as well as an employee. Hope this will serve as reminder to everyone not to let moments slip by.

Festival watch
Eurotrip!!!!
Okay, South Africa is pretty lame when it comes to festivals and bands making their appearances. So! I have been doing a lot of research on European festivals, as I think I will have to get out and see them for myself:) Here's what I have found so far.. Lots of fests are still TBA, but some have lineups (///,~) Like...

U2 Concert: Spoiler Alert!
So I received this via mail today.. not sure how seriously to take it but I feel a couple of gems are missing!!
Apparently this is what we have to look forward to when U2 hit our shores
Opening Act(s):
Amadou & Mariam (WHO the bloody HELL?),
Springbok Nude Girls (predictable...)
U2 set list
Setlist:
Return Of The Stingray Guitar
Beautiful Day
I Will Follow
Get On Your Boots
Magnificent
Mysterious Ways
Elevation
Until The End Of The World
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Spanish Eyes
Mercy
In A Little While
Miss Sarajevo
City Of Blinding Lights
Vertigo
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight / Relax (snippet)
Sunday Bloody Sunday
MLK
Walk On / You'll Never Walk Alone (snippet)
Encore:
One
Amazing Grace (snippet) / Where The Streets Have No Name
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
With Or Without You
Moment of Surrender
Now while I am glad that Beautiful Day / Mysterious Ways / I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For / Sunday Bloody Sunday / Walk On/ Where The Streets Have No Name / With Or Without You are all listed.
I am saddened that "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" isn't listed. I know no setlist can be perfect. They have so many songs to choose from.. But would have been nice to hear "Stuck in a moment" and "Sweetest thing" too. Though I don't know many who are fans of the sweetest thing lol. So maybe it's best left out;)
Any thoughts? Is there something missing you would have liked to hear? Any suggestions for opening acts? Springbok Nude Girls are South African heroes I know.. But seen 'em open for I forget who already lol. Am just glad it's not Parlotones!! Phew..
Later xx ;)
