Knowing Nothing Is Better than Knowing At All
As usual, I have a song playing in rotation in my head. Today it's The Used - "On My Own."
I guess in today's case, it echos the way I feel. I am sure everyone will interpret this song differently, but for me, it's a song about loneliness and how it's sometimes better going through things alone. Maybe because no one will understand, or because it's familiar... I tend to "hold it all inside."
I feel like a lot of us go through life without truly feeling or living. I know I try to live rather than go through the motions. Others are able to go through life without questioning anything and they accept everything as it is so willingly. I sometimes wish I were one of those people. But I question things... I regularly take a step back and reflect, look at it all from the outisde. And most often I feel empty, like there's a loss of purpose.
I pray for a change, but I don't know what for, I just know something is amiss. Then I ask myself, do I really want an answer at all? What if I figure it all out and I don't like the answer? What if I stop feeling and thinking and just accept everything... Will I be happy? Will I feel contempt? Will I feel "found?"
Evidently, my life is good. I have a good job. It may not be my dream job, but I have money. It's a stable income. I don't go hungry. I have a roof over my head. My family is good to me. I have plenty great friends. So why do I feel this loss?
I don't expect an answer overnight. I know that it's probably that I should be doing more with my life... Perhaps I need to find something to do to fill the void. I am not materialistic. I know wealth will not cure this. I may be single/alone, but I prefer it that way. Until, that is, the right guy comes along... No, being single, that's not my issue. If I found "the one" today I would probably still feel like something's amiss. And I definitely don't want to put this on anyone else.
I think the worst part of feeling this way for me, is that I am alone in it. Alone in feeling this way at least. I have plenty of people in my life, but none who know this feeling. I assume this is why I gravitate towards the arts. While my work keeps my brain occupied with numbers and the logical side of things, I need to use my imagination too. Einstein once said "Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
Perhaps exploring other parts of my brain/personality a liitle more will make me feel less out of place... For now I continue to sing "On My Own."
Lyrics: On My Own
See all those people on the ground,
Wasting time...
I try to hold it all inside,
Just for tonight,
On top of the world,
I'm sitting here wishing,
The things I've become,
But something is missing,
Maybe I...
What do I know.
And now it seems that I have found,
Nothing at all,
I wanna hear your voice out loud,
Slow it down, slow it down,
Without it all,
I'm choking on nothing,
It's clear in my head,
that I'm screaming for something,
Knowing nothing is better than knowing at all.
On my own (4x)
(On my own, YAH!!)(2x)
Without it all,
I'm choking on nothing,
It's clear in my head,
that I'm screaming for something,
Knowing nothing is better than knowing at all.
On my own (4x)

2011 MTV VMA's - Everything You Need To Know!
The MTV Video Music Awards are always a must see. Whether you agree with the winners or not, it's one of those pop culture things.. You just have to watch! Something big is always going down and making entertainment/musical history, or perhaps adding to artist Legend status! This year's awards proved no different.
Perhaps the biggest news of the night, the announcement of Beyonce's pregnancy. After performing, the singer threw down her mic, opened her jacket and rubbed her belly, confirming what everyone had been wondering all night (after seeing her baby bump on arrival). Proud poppa-to-be Jay-Z applauded as cameras turned to him in the audience. I don't know why, but I'm elated for Beyonce! Lesson here for ladies: date, marry, then baby! Beyonce's setting a great example. The singer married Jay-Z 3 years ago in a private ceremony.
Another hightlight was the tribute to Britney Spears as she became the recipient of the Video Vanguard Award. A troupe of young girls perfromed to her hits. She also took home the moonman for Best Pop video for the third year in a row. Congrats Brit! That makes it her fifth Moonman.
Probably one of the most anticipated performances of the night, Adele gave another breathtaking performance of "Someone Like You." She continues to bring me to tears, as I am sure she did the world over. I feel like I am going through heartbreak every time I hear her sing this, despite not having experienced that myself kind of heartbreak myself. I feel blessed every time I get to hear that beautiful voice. Her video for "Rolling In The Deep" took home three awards!
Sigh... How can I leave out Gaga? That's right, I can't! Yet again, she grabs everyone's attention with a gender bending performance as she opened with her alter ego, Jo Calderone. Guy-ga even got to nab a kiss from Miss Spears when presenting her award. When is she going to run out of steam? Shock value... not wearing off?

And a touching moment for me, the Amy Winehouse tribute. She may have never made it to the VMA stage but Tony Bennett and Russell Brand paid homage to the late singer, followed by clips of her duet with Bennett "Body And Soul," recorded before her untimely death last month. The single is expected to be released September 14th, which would have been Winehouse's 28th birthday. The Tribute was concluded with a performance of her Zutons cover, "Valerie," by Bruno Mars.
Ladies really "run the world" this year! Adele, Katy Perry, Britney, Gaga, Beyonce and Nicki Minaj's videos all took home a moonman.
Representing for the boys: Justin Bieber took Best Male, Foo Fighters walked away with Best Rock and Tyler, The Creator took home the award for Best New Artist.
Katy Perry took home the night's biggest prize, the moonman for Video Of The Year went to "Firework." She also took home two moonmen for "E.T." for Best Collaboration as well as Best Special Effects. Making her and Adele the biggest winners of the night, with three awards each. I was not a fan of the yellow cube that had fallen on Perry's head and was apparently wedged into her skull.
Not really music related, but MTV gave us a sneak peek at "Hunger Games." I had heard great things about the book, and had been meaning to read it until I heard they were making a movie, looks like it could be a good one. Add to must see movie list.
Being me, I cannot leave out the rock and roll! Foo Fighters took home the moonman for Best Rock Video. 'Never lose faith in real rock and roll music,' says Dave Grohl. I most certainly will not, Sir. Their video for "Walk" beat out the Black Keys' "Howlin' for You," Cage's "Shake Me Down," Foster's "Pumped Up Kicks" and Mumford's "The Cave."
That was the only thing lacking for me, the rock and roll! Lady Gaga Ft Brian May (Queen) doesn't quite cut it. Nor does Chris Brown dancing to "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Very sad indeed. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Blink 182 are back, they could have perhaps wowed us, no? Even using Best Rock nominees would have been a good idea! MTV used to power music, take back that power!
All in all, was a good night. Until next year...

Today Feels Like a Two Door Cinema Club Day
I was blue all morning until I decided to turn on Two Door Cinema Club. They shouldn't be new to anyone really, but if they are and you want to check them out:
Official --> sign up to their mailing list now and get exclusive tracks <3 / Myspace
I first heard of them on Mark Hoppus's Spin column Hopp on Pop, article here. Thanks Mark!
About the band:They're an indie trio from Ireland. Formed in 2007, they decided to forego their university careers in favor of being a band. They signed to French Label Kitsuné and released their first album in 2010. If you liked Phoenix's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, you'll like TDCC's debut Tourist History.
Tracklisting: 1. Cigarettes In The Theatre
2. Come Back Home
3. Do You Want It All ?
4. This Is The Life
5. Something Good Can Work
6. I Can Talk
7. Undercover Martyn
8. What You Know
9. Eat That Up, It's Good For You
10. You're Not Stubborn
Consisting of just ten tracks, they've already released 5 singles from the album: "Something Good Can Work," "I Can Talk," "Undercover Martyn," "Come Back Home" & "What You Know." They could definitely release a couple more tracks as singles (it's that good). "Cigarettes In The Theatre," could easily be added to that list.
